1004 emacs팬보이들과 vim팬보이간의 논쟁

- 아주 오래전에 있었던 일.
- 요즘은 거의 다 사라졌고 emacs 팬보이들만이 가끔 남아 자신의 홈페이지에 'real editor'라고 emacs를 표현하는 정도.
- 둘 다 learning curve는 자타가 공인. - 배우기 어려우나 한번 익혀두면 life skill

둘 다 어느정도 사용한다고 생각하는데 종합적인 평은,
에디터로서는 vim쪽이 우세
기타 잡기(雜技) 재미로는 emacs쪽이 우세.

학자라면 vim을 익히고, 엔지니어라면 emacs를 익힐 것.
과거에는 emacs가 vim과는 다른 메리트를 많이 갖추고 있어 다소 우세했으나 GUI가 보편화되면서 그 장점들이 많이 상쇄됨.

(하지만 주위에 보면 그 반대로, 학자들일수록 emacs를 많이 사용하고 vim사용자의 대부분은 엔지니어. 학자들이 급한게 없어서 그런모양. editing speed(multiple files포함)는 vim이 절대우세.)

 Tim O'Reilly said, in 1999, that O'Reilly Media's tutorial on vi sells twice as many copies as that on Emacs (which could mean either that vi is more popular or harder to learn). 이것도 인상적.
